Find out more about a truly remarkable Wiltshire woman. Catherine Tylney Long was the richest heiress in Regency England. She was the nation’s foremost female celebrity and kept the nation enthralled with the remarkable twists and turns of her life. There will be a talk, followed by Q&A and book signing.

‘Meet the Author’ – Geraldine Roberts will be discussing her book The Angel and The Cad, which explores the life of Catherine Tylney Long heiress of Wanstead House. There will be a short talk at 1pm, followed by Q&A and book signing. Afterwards, Geraldine will be available for informal chat accompanied by tea and cake. She says, ‘It’s always interesting to discuss the story with the Wanstead community, I’m very much looking forward to the event’.
10 March 2016 – Kensal Green Cemetery
Geraldine gave an entertaining talk about the shocking exploits of ‘Wicked William, 4th Earl of Mornington’, one of the cemetery’s most notorious inhabitants.
20 November 2015 – Hampton Court Palace
As part of the annual Richmond Literature Festival, Geraldine joined fellow authors Catherine Hewitt and Joanne Limburg in a panel discussion entitled ‘Writing About Forgotten Women of History’. This event was held at The Gallery at the fabulous Hampton Court Palace.
19 November 2015 – Wanstead Historical Society
Geraldine spoke at Wanstrad Library about Catherine & William Long Wellesley, the birth of celebrity culture and the sensational events at Wanstead House. Over 100 people attended and, as always, it was a pleasure to discuss this story with the knowledgeable Wanstead community.
6 October 2015, 10.30am – Essex Record Office
Geraldine gave a presentation entitled ‘Catherine: The Heiress of Wanstead House’. The event was held in the Lecture Theatre with over 100 attendees
Wanstead Fringe Festival – 5-12th September 2015
A week of comedy, literary discussion, photography, music, walks and picnics taking place throughout Wanstead. Geraldine wrote the script for an entertaining play entitled ‘The Trial of William Long-Wellesley’ which was enacted on the Christchurch Green in Wanstead on September 6th
8 July 2015 – Hale End Library
Geraldine discussed the methods and research involved in writing The Angel and the Cad at Hale End Library for the Highams Park Family History Group. This included some advice on how to get started for budding family historians. The V & A Bookshop in Higham Park kindly provided books for signing afterwards. There was a capacity audience and the whole event was extremely well coordinated by staff and volunteers from Waltham Forest Libraries. 7 July 2015 – Royal Pavilion in Brighton
Geraldine shared a platform with historian and author Stephen Bates, in the sumptuous Music Room at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton. This event, organised by City Books in Hove, was entitled ‘Wealth, Poverty and Scandal in Regency England’. A lively Q&A session, was followed by drinks reception and book signing. 3 July 2015 – Wanstead Library
Book Launch at Wanstead Library, Spratt Hall Road, Courtesy of Newham Bookshop. Geraldine Roberts presented a 20-minute talk on The Angel and the Cad followed by a Q&A and book-signing. There was a great attendance – some 150 in all, and Newham Books said it was one of their most successful events.

24 June 2015 – Book Launch – Daunt Bookshop in Marylebone
Book launch for The Angel and the Cad was held at Daunt Bookshop in Marylebone. The queue for book-signings was very long! It was a memorable evening, thanks so much to all who came along. Ace photographer Geoff Wilkinson has produced this blog report with some great pictures.
